OT3561 & 2 Samuel; God’s People and the Politics of Power
OT356 : 1 & 2 Samuel; God’s People and the Politics of Power (1.5 Credit)
Academic Year : 2020-2021
About this course
BGST’s vision statement speaks of growing in Christ-likeness, and of Christians living out their calling ‘to fulfil God’s creative and redemptive purposes in the Church and the marketplace’. Politics and power have a significant bearing on what happens in the marketplace; the same applies to the church! But Christians may find themselves ill-equipped in dealing with these issues. 1 & 2 Samuel describe a major transition in Israel’s power structures, from tribal confederation to monarchy. The purpose of this course is to reflect on what 1 & 2 Samuel may have to teach us regarding politics and power today.
OT 356 will be taught by blended learning, using a mixture of recorded lectures and class-based study of 1 & 2 Samuel. It may be necessary to conduct all class sessions online.
