A Hasmonean lamp found in the late Hellenistic Period, about 2,100 years
old. It introduces a new development in lamp-making. Still made on a potter's
wheel, it is a brown clay that has been nicely fired. It started with an
elegant, circular body which slopes upward to a rim, then narrows again
and joined to a high filling hole to prevent spillage. Its elongated nozzle
is chipped and bears traces of soot and it has a string-cut base.
