Such lamp was used from the time of Solomon until the capture of Judah
by the Babylonians. It is about 2,800 years old and represents a new development
in the history of the Biblical lamp. It is shaped as a shallow bowl, small,
and sits on a thick, high disc base of coarse manufacture. The rim is thick
and flares outward with a pronounced lip. The spout is pinched and pressed
downward. it is buff, red burnished and heavily encrusted with traces of
soot.
